The story behind a unique coffee drink at the Blue Angel Cafe in South Lake Tahoe.

coffeeInnovation and inspiration can come from necessity or the desire to do something a bit different. The same principles easily apply to both food and drink. They’re not just about sustenance but rather an opportunity to be creative – a fresh approach using only those ingredients in front of you. This is how the Twinkie, one of our unique coffee drinks, came to be.  Just as our Glühwein isn’t on the menu, neither is our Twinkie.  First you must know it exists and then all you need to do is ask for one!

Inspiration behind the Twinkie

We all know the classic cream filled yellow sponge cake. As a child, it was a guilty pleasure that we all enjoyed. A few years back, one of our servers, originally from Utah, had the nickname ‘Twinkie.’ On a random cold winter day, she needed a little pick-me-up but didn’t want to do the normal cup of coffee or shot of espresso. This was the perfect moment for a new, unique coffee drink to be born.

We couldn’t name it anything other than after its creator, since she crafted the recipe from that inspirational moment. The next time you come in and are looking for something a bit different, why not try a Twinkie and give your taste buds a dose of creativity?
