In big cities like Chicago, New York and San Francisco, the concept of bike sharing has exploded on the scene. It’s the perfect way for visitors and locals alike to quickly get around town and avoid congestion on the roads. With ever-increasing traffic in South Lake Tahoe, it’s exciting to see that even deep in the mountains, a bike sharing program has arrived: LimeBike.
LimeBike arrives in South Lake Tahoe
Unveiled at the Ski Run Farmer’s Market on Saturday July 15th, the Bay-Area based company has brought over two hundred of these bikes to the south shore for a three-month trial period. The best part? Compared to other bike sharing systems, there are no docks which means these bikes can free float throughout town and require no infrastructure. Cool, huh?
Blue Angel Café – A Hub
Even without the bike docks, there are hubs where more of these bikes can be found and one of them is just outside our door on Ski Run Boulevard! It’s a perfect opportunity for you to stop by and celebrate National Ice Cream Month with us. Then you can hop on one of these rides to burn off a few calories for an hour or two around town. What a combo!
Bike Sharing and Local Shops can exist together
Of course, we love our local bike shops and therefore want them to flourish. From what we’ve read, it all depends on the tone that we as a community set. A great write-up can be found here, giving some ideas to make this a way for shops and sharing programs to coexist while helping each other out. So, until then, here are a few of our favorite bike shops in South Lake Tahoe that you should check out if you’re looking to rent bikes for the day, entire weekend, or even longer:
Instead of driving to Blue Angel, get your pedal-on! As you can see, there’s a bunch of ways to get here on the two-wheel variety while enjoying our beautiful summer weather. Happy pedaling!
