Spending time in the mountains is all about adventure. You don’t need to climb the highest peak or ski off a 50-foot cliff to make your time in Lake Tahoe memorable. It’s about trying and doing new things that are a little bit out of your comfort zone. At Blue Angel Café & Catering Company, you could consider our latest menu item, the Gorgonzola Cheesecake, one of those things.
A Scottish-inspired dish comes to fruition
The first thing that comes to my mind when you hear the word “Cheesecake” is dessert. Well, that doesn’t always have to be true. For example, in Scotland they make a smoked salmon cheesecake that’s to die for. Inspired by this European delicacy, we decided we should try making a specialty of our own.
Blue Angel Café’s Gorgonzola Cheesecake is savory not sweet
Our savory cheesecake, with a walnut crust, is served alongside our artisanal in-house fresh baked bread. Depending on the day, it can be either a French baguette or Focaccia. You can’t go wrong with either option! The cheesecake is topped with salty bacon pieces and bits of tart apple. The bacon is cooked in sherry vinegar making it slightly sweet while at the same time the perfect saltiness. The warm freshly toasted bread and cold cheesecake combined adds a delightful dichotomy to each bite.
After trying a savory cheesecake in Scotland, the famous Michael Portillo once stated during his Great British Railways journey series, “You haven’t lived until you’ve tasted this!” As our friends at Local Freshies® said, “It tastes so good, it just makes you happy.” Like any meticulously made dish, it’s for a limited time only so stop by before it’s too late!
