We spend A LOT of time researching & investigating what beers and wines to serve in our café. It’s because one of our biggest priorities is to showcase local vendors that at the same fit our style. For Hard Ciders, this has always been a major challenge. We’ve tried a lot of them over the years and nearly every one of them was either too sweet, too sour or just something that wouldn’t pair well with our food. We’re excited to announce that we don’t have just one cider but now THREE that we serve from Horse & Plow AND Golden State Cider.
Horse & Plow – Hops & Honey Cider
A winery where Gravensteins and grapes make peace and become friends. This amazing place merges the best of old and new world techniques to produce authentic, hand-crafted wines & ciders like no other. Wondering what a Gravenstein is? It’s a highly aromatic apple that offers a classic sweet-tart apple flavor with nuances of honey. It’s one of the ten varieties of local apples then dry-hopped with whole hops in their Hops & Honey Cider. By taking the techniques they use in winemaking and applying them to cider, this tasty concoction has emerged into one of the most sophisticated ciders we’ve ever experienced. Due to the fermentation in the bottle, it results in a completely dry sparkling cider that is sweet but tart at the same time. On the surface, $16 may seem like a lot, but you get two and a half pints worth! This can only translate to a great adventure for a couple’s dinner or friends to share.
Golden State Ciders
What started in 2012 on a small organic farm in Northern California, which was sold exclusively at Bay Area farmers’ markets, has now grown into the award-winning cider powerhouse of today. Sourcing 100 percent fresh-pressed West Coast apples, including local, organic apples when available, Golden State Cider is one of the few cider producers in the country that does not add water, sugar or concentrate to any of its products. We don’t serve just one of their ciders but TWO including one available on draft.
Mighty Dry Cider
The Mighty Dry Cider contains 6.9 percent alcohol by volume and is comparable to that of craft beer but offers you a gluten-free alternative. An off-dry bright cider, it is reminiscent of apple champagne and pairs well with our fish taco plate.
A true summer drink, we call this one the lawnmower cider because its perfect for any hot outdoor activity like mountain biking or hanging out on our outdoor patio. This cider is so good that we had to put it on draft! The zesty, semi-dry ginger and lemongrass infused cider pairs great with our blackened cod tacos or even our savory cioppino entrée.
We’re excited to bring these local ciders into our café and hope that you try them the next time you’re in. We know you’ll love them just as much as we do.
